The Illinois Parrot Rescue
has strict requirements that have to be met before the
Adoption process can proceed.
Adoption Process Steps:
Read Pre-Adoption Considerations Information document.
Complete Adoption Form
In-depth Adoption Application form will be sent to adoptee
assessing adopter's experience and environment.
Attend Pet Parrot Behavior Workshop (Online, In-home
Consultation or One Day Workshop) this is compulsory.
Adoption Contract filled out and signed
Adoptee receives bird
Adoptee must maintain contact for a minimum of 12 months
with the IPR
The IPR receives many enquiries for exotic and native
species such as Amazons, Macaws, African Greys, Black
Cockatoos, Eclectus, Quakers, Major Mitchell’s etc, the
reality is that such species rarely, if ever, become
available for adoption.
Adoption candidates are primarily cockatoos (Sulphur crested
cockatoos, Galahs, Corellas, Lorikeets, Cockatiels and other
Neophema parrots.), as well as a small number of non-native
parrots that occasionally become available, such as Indian
Ringnecks and Alexandrines.
